Understanding AI: 7 modules to develop discernment
This course does not simply teach you how to use AI. It helps you see what is happening in the interaction, recognize your projections, understand the language effects produced by the system, and build a more lucid way of using it.
The program follows a simple progression: first how an answer is made, then what we attribute to the machine, then what it actually produces, then what, in an answer’s form, makes us believe in its substance, then critical reading, then delegation, and finally responsible use.
A different way to teach AI
Most AI courses begin with tools, use cases, or productivity gains. PARLYA begins with the human-AI relationship, the structural misunderstanding built into the exchange, and the way that misunderstanding transforms our reading, our judgment, and sometimes even our language.
In other words, the goal is not only to produce better outputs. It is to develop a more nuanced, more stable, and more conscious stance toward what AI does, seems to do, and leads us to do.
The workbook holds a central place here. Throughout the course, you are invited to keep a record of your observations, like the characters in the book: what surprises you, what convinces you, what resists you, and what you are beginning to see differently.
This workbook is not a bonus. It helps you reflect on your stance toward AI, put your shifts into words, and become more lucid not only about how you use these tools, but also about the very nature of your interactions with them.
| Traditional AI course | PARLYA course |
|---|---|
| Teaches techniques, prompts, and tools. | Teaches a reading framework, concepts, and a way of seeing. |
| Goal: productivity. | Goal: discernment. |
| Measures the output produced. | Measures understanding and stance. |
| Becomes obsolete when the tool changes. | Remains valid regardless of the tool. |
| Assumes AI is a neutral tool. | Shows that the exchange is also a space of projection. |
| Audience: tech-curious professionals. | Audience: any human being who speaks to AI. |
Overall logic
The program was designed as a progression in discernment. You begin with what happens when entering into relation with AI, then move toward a more demanding reading of its effects, its limits, and the uses you make of it.
The course is built around an opening module, 7 progressive modules, and a conclusion. Each module includes lessons and a three-question quiz in which every answer is explained and nothing is scored; from Module 1 on, the lessons draw on real exchanges with an AI, shown in screenshots and discussed. Videos are being added, one per module, starting with Module 1.
This architecture avoids overlap: each module has its own guiding question, its own angle of analysis, and its own intended transformation.
You are not only learning how to use AI. You are learning to see more accurately what happens when you speak to it, when you believe it, and when you rely on it.
The course connects conceptual understanding, lived experience, and personal stance. That is what gives it pedagogical coherence.
You discover how an answer is made, piece by piece, from small units of text called tokens, and you spot what you add to it yourself as you read.
You understand why we speak to AI as if it were someone, how projection, familiarity, and apparent presence shape our reading, and what, in its friendliness, comes from the way its makers tuned it.
You see what the machine produces, word after word, and what it draws on, and you say what an excellent answer proves and what it does not.
You analyze what, in an answer’s form, makes us believe in its substance: the impression of being listened to, fluency and style, the illusion of being understood, and the seriousness of a simulation.
You learn to tell apart what an answer claims and what you believe about it, to decide when it needs checking, and to check it without letting the machine guess the answer you are hoping for.
You clarify what can be delegated, what must remain under your control, and how to retain your position as author and decision-maker.
You consolidate a lasting stance capable of articulating efficiency, vigilance, autonomy, and responsibility.
